USA women’s gymnastics wins gold medal in team final after dominant performance

The United States women’s gymnastics team are gold medal winners after the team finals took place on Tuesday at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, Suni Lee and Simone Biles all put together dominant performances to help bring the U.S. a gold medal.

The women started off strong on the vault, with Chiles earning a 14.400 Carey scoring a 14.800 and Biles wrapping things up on the first rotation with a 14.900.

Chiles started things off on a high note for Team USA with a DTY.

Carey’s score came after the gymnast revealed she had been battling an illness during the qualifying round and hadn’t been able to eat or drink much of anything. She completed the Cheng and stuck the landing.

Biles didn’t complete the Yurchenko double pike like many thought she would, but instead she did the Cheng — another difficult move the now-five-time Olympic gold medalist made look easy.

During the uneven bars in Rotation 2, Chiles continued her brilliant run with a 14.366 on the uneven bars, including an 8.336 execution. Biles, despite the uneven bars not being her speciality, earned a 14.400, including a 6.2 difficulty and 8.2 execution. Lee, who fell off the bars during warmups, wasn’t rattled and finished with a 14.566 — the highest score for Team USA on the bars — with a 6.300 difficulty and 8.266 execution.

Chiles fell on her mount on the balance beam and made a recovery to finish her routine strong. She finished with a score of 12.733. Lee nailed her beam routine from start to finish to earn a score of 14.6. Biles wrapped up the third rotation with a 14.366 score.

Team USA held the lead going into the floor exercise with Lee up first. She had a beautiful routine that earned her a 13.533 score. Chiles followed up with a 13.966 score after her routine had her teammates jumping up and down and Chiles emotional after she was finished on the floor.

That left Biles as the final gymnast for Team USA on the floor. Despite stepping out of bounds, she scored a 14.666 to help earn the women a gold medal.
