US Ryder Cup team creates new team manager position, appoints former candidate
The US Ryder Cup team has yet to announce a captain for next year’s match at Bethpage Black Stadium, but it has been revealed that the US team will have a manager. The PGA Ryder Cup committee announced Wednesday the creation of a new position, which will be filled by former caddy John Wood. And it looks like Team USA’s next captain will have a lot less to worry about. “From the 2025 rider cup, Vespage Black, Wood will work closely with the U.S. team’s captain, vice cupat, team members, and rider cup PGA official websites.
The wood has collapsed on four different players (Mark Carcashell, Christma Han, Matt Cucumber) with six cups of riders. He also served as an assistant for Team USA in 2018.
After retiring from caddying, Wood has been working as a reporter for NBC Sports since 2021. He covered the rider cup 2021 and 2023.
Wood explained in the statement of this new opportunity to “dream of a dream,” but he continued to work in NBC Sports. “Nothing. In my profession, I don’t say anything more passionate than the rider cup,” said Wood. “I was one of the six rider cup teams as CEDUDI, and I was happy to be one of the two teams as an NBC sports journalist on the course. I am grateful for these special and memorable impressions every time. I am honored to work with my friends at the PGA of America, the PGA Ryder Cup Committee, and the future Ryder Cup captains, vice captains, and team members to help the captains and teams prepare to participate in one of America’s greatest sporting events. Always. Where I saw the world. I am grateful to NBC Sports for the opportunity to take on this truly dream role.
Tiger Woods is rumored to be the leading candidate to be the next U.S. captain at the Ryder Cup. However, the 15-time major champ said ahead of this month’s PGA Championship that he was unsure if he’d “have the time to do it” with his roles on the boards of the PGA Tour and PGA Tour Enterprises in addition to playing—and his position on the tour’s transaction team dealing with a potential deal with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. We’ll have to wait and see if having a team manager affects Woods’ decision. Luke Donald will return as Europe captain after defeating Zac Johnson’s side in Italy last autumn. The 2025 Ryder Cup will take place in September. Bethpage Black, 26-28.
