Rory McIlroy reportedly hired a private investigator to serve divorce papers on Erica Stoll 24 hours after winning the Wells Fargo Championship.
Rory McIlroy reportedly hired a private investigator to serve divorce papers on Erica Stoll. The revelation came in a Belfast Telegraph report published over the weekend, when McIlroy took a week’s break from professional golf during a busy major season.
Flight tracking site radaratlas2 said McIlroy’s private jet was in Italy, suggesting he may have been attending a wedding, but this has not yet been confirmed. McIlroy filed for divorce from his wife of seven years on May 13, 24 hours after winning his 26th PGA Tour title at the Wells Fargo Championship.
According to BT, McIlroy digitally signed the document between 9:06 pm and 9:08 pm ET on May 9. The lawsuit was filed in Palm Beach County Court by attorney Thomas Sasser, who represented Tiger Woods in his divorce from Elin Nordegren after his infidelity was revealed.
Court documents also show that Carl Woods has served a subpoena on Erica. Woods has been a police officer since 1987 and is a certified homicide investigator and licensed private investigator.
“In Woods’ filing, he said he received divorce papers from Sasser’s office at 9:58 a.m. on May 13 and personally delivered them at 10:30 a.m. in a stall at the McIlroy family home at the Bears Club, Jack Nicklaus’ luxury complex.” “He described Stoll as blonde, in her 30s, slim, between 5ft 7in and 5ft 8in tall and without glasses.
“In the subpoena served on Stoll, she was informed that she had 20 days to file a written response to her husband’s petition with the Clerk of the Circuit Court.”
Additionally, the document stated: “A phone call will not protect you. If you want the court to hear your side of the case, you must file an answer that includes the case number and the names of the parties listed above.
“If you fail to respond in time, you risk losing your case and may subsequently have your wages, money and property confiscated without notice to the court.”
“There are other legal requirements. You may want to call an attorney right away. If you do not know an attorney, you may call an attorney referral service or a legal aid office (listed in the phone book.)”
