Tiger Woods outside the golf course for illness, ruins the possibility of returning to PGA in 2024
The PGA tour pointed out that Woods had cramped early during the day, but confirmed that Woods was diagnosed with influenza on Saturday and had withdrawn from the tournament.
Tiger Woods has launched the sixth hall in the second round of the Genesis Invitation at the Riviera Country Club.
Tiger Woods was taken from a course with influenza symptoms and then withdrawn from Genesis Invitational Golf Tournament in Los Angeles. The 48-year-old professional golfer was escorted to the locker room by rules officials around 1:30 p.m. local time on Friday, and emergency personnel soon arrived at Riviera Country Club, the PGA Tour said.
Woods was treated inside the clubhouse for “potential dehydration and dizziness linked to his illness” with an IV bag. The PGA Tour had previously noted Woods was suffering from back spasms, but Woods confirmed Saturday that he had withdrawn from the tournament due to a flu diagnosis. “I want to confirm that I have had to leave @thegenesisinv due to what I now understand to be the flu,” Woods X wrote. Good luck to the players this weekend. “I’m disappointed I can’t be there, but I want to thank @GenesisUSA and all the fans for their support.”
According to NBC Sports, Woods’ manager Rob McNamara said Woods experienced “flu-like symptoms” during the second round of the tournament. The tournament, which will be held Feb. 15-18 on the Pacific Palisades coast, will mark Woods’ first official appearance on the PGA Tour since he withdrew from the 2023 Masters last April because of plantar fasciitis. A few weeks later, he underwent surgery for post-traumatic arthritis related to a previous injury from a 2021 car accident. In December 2023, Woods returned to competition, finished 18th in the hero world challenge, and a few weeks later he participated in his son’s Charlie and participated in the PNC championship.
According to the PGA tour, Woods has been playing nine official golf events since 2019. He missed two shots and conceded three.
In February 2021, Woods was involved in a single-vehicle rollover accident on a hillside near Rancho Palos Verdes, California, suffering multiple compound fractures of his tibia and fibula, as well as injuries to the back of his foot and ankle.
