Rory McIlroy’s former agent claims ‘messy lifestyle’ is major sticking point in Erica Stoll’s divorce saga
Rory McIlroy could miss the British Open just a month after failing at the U.S. Open shortly after annulling his divorce from Erica Stoll.
Rory McIlroy’s former agent Andrew “Chubby” Chandler believes the four-time world champion’s “chaotic” life away from golf is hurting his chances of ending his drought.
McIlroy struggled on Thursday, shooting a dismal 78 to end his hopes of winning his first major championship in a decade. The disastrous exit came after the Northern Irishman collapsed at the U.S. Open after arriving at Pinehurst second amid uncertainty over his marriage.
On the eve of the U.S. Open, McIlroy and his wife, Erica Stoll, finalized their divorce. This is a drastic change in the 35-year-old’s personal life, given that the relationship with his wife had been damaged beyond repair after he filed for divorce just a month earlier.
Less than 24 hours after winning the Wells Fargo Championship on May 12, McIlroy filed for divorce, claiming his marriage to Stoll was “irretrievably broken.” But this development means the couple have tried to move on and forget about the issue.
But at Royal Troon, McIlroy is in serious risk of missing out. He shot seven and continued to falter on Friday, leaving his former agent wondering how McIlroy’s struggles could be fuelled by off-course issues.
“The best players obviously play better more often and then the really best players take their chances,” Chandler told talkSPORT. “That’s what happened with Rory, Rory has played great for 10 years, he just doesn’t take risks. “Looking at it from the outside, I haven’t seen Rory in a few years, but I think her life is a mess. You know what it’s like to be an athlete, you have to be totally focused and concentrated on what you’re doing,” he said. “But it seems like Rory spent a year and a half fighting LIV on the PGA Tour, then the PGA Tour pulled the rug out from under him, then he started talking about how LIV wasn’t that bad, then he had marriage problems, and then he got so much media attention because he hadn’t won a major in 10 years. So he just can’t get away from it. I think his life is really dirty.
The fans gained two shots in the remaining five holes, as her fans thought that her big 10 -year -old drought would end with the opening championship in the United States. However, a 35 -year -old man painted two short shots of the three gods who opened the door to Bryson Desumbo, who created a magical moment to win at the age of 18. After DeChambeau won, a heartbroken McIlroy quickly left Pinehurst No. 2 and struggled to come to terms with his collapse. He’s missed several tournaments to spend time with his family and is going through a tumultuous period in his personal life.
