McIlroy continued his strong form, shooting a final-round 64 to move into contention for the championship at the RBC Canadian Open at Hamilton Golf and Country Club. A few minutes later, the Northern Irishman appeared on camera to reflect on his performance in a one-on-one interview with Balionis for CBS Sports.
The couple has been in the news in recent days after McIlroy filed for divorce from his wife, Erica Stoll, and Balionis ditched his wedding ring and married name. This made many fans wonder how close the two had become. Neither McIlroy nor Balionis have publicly commented on the rumors. Reports this week claim the pair are “not dating, just have a personal relationship.” The pair shared a few laughs during Sunday’s interview before McIlroy closed in on leader Robert MacIntyre. “I don’t think so,” McIlroy told Balionis when asked if 13-under would be enough to win — though he hopes it is. There were some great opportunities along the way… selfishly, I wish that was enough.
“But Bob is a good friend of mine and a Ryder Cup teammate and it’s great to see him do that.”
He added: “I had a great weekend. Probably not enough, but it’ll definitely be a good weekend to build on that. »
Afterwards, McIlroy and Balionis joked about his partnership with Tom Kim: “Is it possible that you two are really comfortable with each other?” He’s like a little brother to all of us.’

This was the Northern Irishman’s first PGA Tour appearance since finishing tied for 12th at the PGA Championship at Valhalla.

Meanwhile, Balionis married Brin Renner in 2022.
