Rickie Fowler retires from PGA Tour LIV Golf

Rickie Fowler, who was rumored to be joining Greg Norman’s LIV Golf, has confirmed his commitment to the PGA Tour.
Despite some difficult times in his career, Fowler, who had not won a PGA Tour event in four and a half years, made a remarkable comeback at the Rocket Mortgage Classic last July. He beat Collin Morikawa and Adam Hadwin in a thrilling playoff to claim his first victory since 2018.
Despite his struggles, Fowler was a top target for LIV Golf, which has had success signing a number of big-name players, including Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka. However, Fowler stated that joining LIV Golf “was not the best choice for me” and decided to remain on the PGA Tour. His decision highlighted his dedication to the PGA Tour and his confidence in its status as golf’s premier competition.
During an appearance on Netflix’s “Full Swing,” Fowler detailed his decision, emphasizing his desire to compete against the best players in the world, rather than just playing for a paycheck. He reaffirmed his commitment to the PGA Tour by saying:

“I don’t play for a paycheck. I play to compete with the best players in the world, and I think the Tour is the best place to do that.”

After winning the Rocket Mortgage Classic, Fowler faced a challenge to get back to his best form. He has yet to seriously struggle this season, but he showed signs of improvement with a top-20 finish at last week’s Travelers Championship. Fowler is optimistic about this week’s rocket mortgate classic, and has expressed his hopes to rely on recent progress.
Fowler’s position to LIV GOLF is beyond his personal choices. He has publicly stated his disagreement with Rory McIlroy’s view that defectors should be welcomed into LIV without any repercussions. Recognizing the appeal of LIV golf, Fowler believes the PGA Tour will remain an ideal platform for high-level competition. He credits the Tour’s maintained prestige to the efforts of players such as Tiger Woods and Jordan Spieth and is determined to ensure the Tour remains the great place to play.
Despite a big offer from LIV Golf, Fowler’s commitment to the PGA Tour underscores his commitment to the integrity of the sport and his desire to compete at the highest level. His improvement continues and he is expected to have further success at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
