PGA Tour commentator ripped over ‘lying’ about new LIV Golf innovation

Golf fans believe the PGA Tour has copied LIV Golf’s homework in relation to new drone tracer technology on latest live broadcast.

Golf fans have called out PGA Tour commentator Frank Nobilo for ‘lying’ about new drone tracer technology during its live broadcast at the Travelers Championship.

During the third round of the $20m signature event at TPC River Highlands, CBS commentator and one-time PGA Tour winner Nobilo described the latest bit of golf tech as ‘never been before done TV’.

Only drone tracer tech has been used before.

On LIV Golf for the past nine months in fact.

The breakaway Saudi-bankrolled league debuted drone tracer technology at Trump National Doral back in October 2023.

‘LIVE drone tracer/’ [eyes emoji], the PGA Tour posted on X / Twitter as eventual runner-up Tom Kim thrashed away with his tee shot.

The tech was used at various different points during the weekend broadcast.

Drone tracer tech only shows where the golf ball is heading side on, but also reveals the apex and carry distance of the shot.

A number of ardent golf fans were quick to let the PGA Tour and Nobilo know about their latest slip of the tongue.

“Imagine saying this lie knowing the truth and how easy it is to disprove,” tweeted one fan.

“LIV did this nine months ago, there is nothing wrong with innovation and copying it. Just don’t lie!”

Another commented: “Yeah… the LIV Golf League has been doing this for almost a year already.”

A third added: “The PGA Tour copying LIV Golf drone tracer after nine months and calling it a first is hilarious.”

LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman once admitted the PGA Tour had ‘copied our homework’ when it had been made clear the circuit was adding more reserve money into limited-field, no-cut events with inflated prize purses.

Scottie Scheffler went on to capture his sixth PGA Tour title in his last 10 starts with a playoff victory over Tom Kim at the Travelers Championship.

It marked his 12th career win.

The closing stages of the tournament were marred after XR protestors stormed the 18th green. Akshay Bhatia, who was in the final group with Scheffler and Kim, admitted to being ‘scared for my life’.

Scheffler has now become the first player since Tiger Woods in 2009 to win six times in a PGA Tour season.

The runaway World No.1 has also smashed what many deemed an ‘unbreakable’ OWGR record set by Woods in 2000.

The PGA Tour heads to the Rocket Mortgage Classic this week, which was last year won by Rickie Fowler.

Kim is the pre-tournament favourite at 12/1.

No doubt there will be more live drone tracer tech, which was first used by LIV Golf.
