Patrick asks Tiger Woods some key questions after early exit
Tiger Woods leaves Scotland having missed out on a place at the 2024 British Open Championship at Royal Troon.
The 15-time major champion finished the first two rounds at 14 over par, leading to an early exit from the tournament. Following that disappointment, Woods told reporters Friday he planned to fly to Detroit to join his son Charlie at this week’s U.S. junior tournament in Oakland Hills. Woods is not expected to compete again until the Hero World Challenge in December. Despite his current form, fans will likely continue to see nearly every shot he takes, regardless of his level of play.
This extensive media coverage sparked a debate on The Dan Patrick Show, where Dan Patrick wondered whether another sport would ever see an athlete who has struggled as much as Woods has in recent years. “Now we’re watching him and every frame is on TV,” Patrick said. “What other sport has so much attention on someone competing?”
Patrick argued that this level of coverage may be unfair to Woods and other golfers. “It’s not fair to other golfers, and maybe it’s not fair to Tiger,” he continued. “I wish people would check him out regularly… His game is not newsworthy.”
Woods, 48, will take a break from competitive golf before competing in the Hero World Challenge and PNC Championship in December. Regardless of his recent performances, Woods remains one of the most exciting players in golf and his presence continues to capture the attention of spectators and media at every tournament.
