DRANK CLASSIC creates a special concession food in honor of the reigning champion Rickie FOWLER
Rickie Fowler tasted victory for the first time in more than four years at the Rocket Mortgage Classic from last year. Now, on his return to the Golf Club Strait as a reigning champion, he can taste something else. Fowler was presented with his medal during the pre-tournament press conference on the night before this year’s tournament. Field sandwich? That’s right, a sandwich. In a tradition (truly unlike any other) started last year, the Rocket Mortgage Classic honors its champions by giving fans a special benefit for next year. Hey, that doesn’t quite organize the Masters Champions dinner, but it’s a nice touch.
Last year, the “FINUU FITU” was served in honor of the 2022 winner, Tony Finau. And Detroit Golf Club fans can enjoy Rick’s Pick this week.
“So we worked with your wife Allison and your team to create what we call Rick’s Pick,” said chef Colin John of caterer Forte Belanger. “It’s a Cajun boar and turkey head bun with shredded lettuce, pickles, pepperoncini, mayonnaise, vinegar, oil and oregano. So it’s not crazy. I didn’t want to think about it too much, I know sandwiches are one of your favorite foods.” So, please let me know what you think.
“I appreciate it,” Fowler responded. “This is one of my standard lunches that I order at home, whether it’s on the field or at the local sandwich shop. Hopefully the fans here can enjoy it a little bit.”
The assembled media – never one to turn down free food – also enjoyed it:
Looks good! And the golf toothpick is a nice touch. Either way, if you’re heading to the tournament this week, you’ll be eating well.
