Richard Bland will not pay his DP World Tour fines

LIV Golf star Richard Bland has admitted he has no intention of paying off fines handed to him by the DP World Tour, revealing his penalty bill stands at £788,000 ($1 million).

Bland became one of a number of DP World Tour stars to make the move to the LIV setup following its inception in 2022. In response the Wentworth-based circuit issued suspensions and fines to its members who competed in ‘conflicting’ LIV events whilst its own tournaments were taking place.

Eventually Bland joined the likes of Ian Poulter, Sergio Garcia and Lee Westwood in resigning from the circuit formerly known as the European Tour, having pledged his loyalties to LIV.

This ultimately cost him the chance to complete the senior Grand Slam earlier this year, having won both the Senior PGA Championship in May and the US Senior Open a month later. Due to the Senior Open being a co-sanctioned event by the DP World Tour and R&A, Bland was unable to compete at Carnoustie due to his lack of membership and outstanding sanctions.

And whilst his fines remain unpaid, the Englishman claimed he has no plans to clear the cost after revealing his DP World Tour career is over. “I knew that was the case, I didn’t have my fines paid,” Bland told reporters ahead of the International Series England event on the Asian Tour.

“The main reason was that once I’d gone to LIV, I knew my DP World Tour career was finished. I knew that and accepted that. I didn’t see the point in paying them $1 million for something I’m never going to compete on again. That hurts me for the Senior Open but OK, I kind of live with that.
