BREAKING: PGA Chairman Jay Monahan sheds tears after revealing unbelievable facts about Tiger Woods. Details ππ
The PGA Tour has approved the introduction of a special exemption to allow 15-time major champion Tiger Woods to play in all signature events from 2025 onwards
PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan revealed that 15-time major champion Tiger Woods has received a lifetime exemption into all signature events in order to make the events “bigger” and “better”. Woods’ exemption, which takes effect in 2025, means the golf icon will be eligible to play in eight signature events after the PGA Tour approved a new “exceptional performance exemption category” created specifically to ensure the 48-year-old gets on the course despite a light schedule at this stage of his career. These prestigious tournaments, each with huge prize pools and small attendance numbers, were hot topics recently when the new PGA Tour schedule was first announced, and one of the many controversies was regarding which players would be allowed to play in the main tournaments. Tournament sponsors are given four exemptions to distribute to certain PGA Tour members, and those passes are often given to a rotating list of players, but Monahan wanted to guarantee him an appearance in a major tournament given the importance and dizzying popularity of Woods, who has made it clear his final appearance of 2024 will be next month’s Royal Troon Open. “Well, look, I think this was important to our membership, it’s something we’ve discussed with the PAC, it was important to our player directors, it was important to our board of directors, it was important to me, because you are you. As the release says, this guy has won over 80 tournaments and I think we can give him the opportunity to compete in these tournaments,” Monahan explained. “Every tournament he’s ever played in, he’s made the tournament bigger, he’s made it better, he’s brought more attention to it and I think as an organization we wanted to celebrate his excellence in any way we could.”
