Five PGA Tour superstars call for Rory McIlroy to “lose” the LIV Golf match

Rory McIlroy has been a staunch defender of the PGA Tour and opposed LIV Golf, but he decided to step down from the PGA Board after negotiations began to merge the two organizations with LIV Golf.

Olly McIlroy is hoping to win his first Masters trophy at Augusta next week.

NBC and Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee criticized PGA Tour members Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele for failing to perform alongside Rory McIlroy in the LIV Golf match. The PGA and LIV remain in extensive talks to merge the two organizations after a shock announcement was made last summer without any of the sport’s biggest stars being informed.

  1. McIlroy has long been a PGA Tour champion throughout LIV Golf’s existence, with many of his rivals joining the new Saudi-backed league for huge fees. Nevertheless, Makilra decided to withdraw from the PGA board of directors, saying that the merger with Liv was “not what I signed when I went to the board of directors”.
Makilra has openly talked about her “hatred” for Liv golf, but has since cooled her emotions in the league supported by Saudi Arabia. And Chamblee believes McIlroy has been let down by the four big names who stuck with him on the PGA Tour: Spieth, Thomas, Schauffele and Schauffele.
The Golf Channel analyst told Golfweek: I don’t think the players are being selfish, but I felt that Rory was there to be a force against the LIV funding, and he was a very big source of funding for the PGA Tour and he didn’t have the support of any of the players.
