Cam Smith and 4 LIV Golf stars among players to suffer nightmare start to The Open
After winning the Claret Jug two years prior, Cam Smith had wonderful memories of The Open; however, he also experienced one of the most difficult days of his career at Royal Troon.
Cam Smith, the previous Open champion, had a terrible day at Royal Troon, ending any chance of winning the claret jug for another year.
The Australian finished in a tie for 145th place, nearly at the bottom of the leaderboard with a nine-over-par round. Smith’s round began disastrously, with a triple at the second and a bogey at the first, out in the afternoon wave off the west coast of Scotland. Golf Star Live brought birds to three, and received a certain cheap relief, but the first nine was afraid of the other four, and the probability of entering the preservation was over. Instead, Smith must shoot much lower to get the opportunity to reduce it on Friday. Smith pointed out: “Just a bad day, really.” “I mean, I wouldn’t say it is possible if you told me yesterday that I will shoot it. Nevertheless, I had a bit of a rude start, and I couldn’t have shots when I had to go back to the game. It was just a tough day with some tough moments.
“Hey, this class is hard. Lots of wind gusts. It’s hard to keep the ball in the fairway and when hitting short ones into the rough you have to guess based on the bounce. It was tough. It was a very difficult test of golf and I had to be at the top of my game to shoot under par.” Smith was not the only notable person to suffer from the wind and rain on “Ayrshire Thursday”. Rory McIlroy had seven birdies, while Tiger Woods and Rickie Fowler had eight each. Reigning 2023 U.S. Open winner Wyndham Clark joined them at the back of the leaderboard. Anything over seven puts you at risk of being eliminated. Smith lost to the royal royal throne, as it has been proven by his colleagues’s stars, Liv Bryson Deshambo, David Puig, Louis Oshuisen, and John Cathlin. Deschamba won the birds with the first five birds on the 16th, finished 5, and wanted to enter the leader table over the next three days.
But Puig shot a nine-over-par 80, meaning the young Spaniard is likely to miss the cut in his Open debut. While Charles Howell III recovers from an injury, Catlin has been a tremendous asset for DeChambeau’s Crushers team in recent weeks. However, after an end of five above the nominal value, a 33-year-old adolescent faced on the occasion of missing the reduction of the open air for the third time in his career.
