Bryson DeChambeau Chokes Up While Talking About His Father After U.S. Open Win

Bryson DeChambeau got a little emotional on Sunday while talking about his father Jon after winning his second career U.S. Open.

Jon DeChambeau passed away in 2022 after battling multiple health issues, but Bryson told interviewer Taylor Zarzour that his father was with him throughout his incredible final round.

The U.S Open, of course, concluded on Father’s Day.

How much did you think about Jon Dechambeau today,” Zarzour says.

To which Bryson then replies that he doesn’t want Zarzour to get him crying.

Zarzour then notes that he, like DeChambeau, lost his father.

“He definitely was,” Bryson answers when Zarzour says his father was out there on the course with him. “And Payne (Stewart) was out there.”

Stewart, of course, is a former U.S. Open champion at Pinehurst and was one of DeChambeau’s golfing icons when growing up.

Bryson DeChambeau Has Become A Fan Favorite Since The Passing Of His Father

While it’s obviously a heartbreaking story, DeChambeau’s father’s passing seems to have coincided with his transformation from an outcast into a fan favorite.

Prior to Sunday’s pivotal final round, and with history still in the balance, Dechambeau stopped to sign several autographs on the driving range on Saturday night.

He then made a point to thank those same fans after winning on Sunday.

“This one is for all of you, the support out there today was unmatched,” DeChambeau said in his victory speech.

It’s a far cry from where Dechambeau was just two years ago, when fans were making fun of him for walking into ropes around the course.
