The win was all the more sweet for the 27-year-old MacIntyre, whose father, Dougie, was filling in for him at Hamilton Golf and Country Club this week. MacIntyre shot a two-under 68 to finish at 16 under par for a close victory over playing partner Ben Griffin, who shot a solid 65. MacIntyre became just the sixth Scotsman in the modern era to win a PGA Tour event. He will be ranked among the top 40 players in the world on Monday morning and will earn a huge first place prize of $1.7 million. Macintyre also exemption from PGA Tour until the end of 2026.

With her father standing next to her, an emotional McIntyre told CBS’ Amanda Balionis:
“Honestly, I’m at a loss for words. It means everything to me and my family, my girlfriend, my team. I can’t believe I did that with this on my bag. I’m crying with joy, but I also laugh because I never thought I’d be able to do it.
“I was falling at the end, but my dad was making sure I stayed focused and moved smoothly. Mentally I didn’t listen, I just wanted to win this for my dad. He’s the guy who taught me how to play golf, and I can’t believe I did this with him on the bag.
“Unbelievable. I’m a lawnmower, not a caddy. I got a call last Saturday evening and was sitting on my couch at 8pm on a Saturday. I was busy with work, but I was on an 8am flight the next morning, and it was just amazing.”
Before the final round, McIntyre said his father’s encouragement had helped him take a four-stroke lead heading into the final round.
McIntyre confirmed he was heading home to Oban, Scotland, to enjoy the celebrations. The Scotsman could win his first PGA Tour title and qualify for next week’s Memorial Tournament if he chooses to accept a late invitation to Muirfield Village.
