Amanda Balionis shared a special moment with her “best dinner date” on Instagram, having celebrated her 38th birthday.

Basking in birthday bliss, Balionis let fans know about her celebrations. The CBS reporter, who was romantically linked to Rory McIlroy before rumours were quashed, posted a story with her mum, Dana, where they clinked wine glasses and smiled.

“Best dinner date,” read Balionis’ caption. Eager to share her joyous moments earlier that same day, Balionis couldn’t hide her excitement about her encounter with “legendary” journalist Lesley Stahl at the Travelers Championship Women’s Day breakfast.

“It took my 38th birthday for two iconic things to happen,” the reporter wrote on Instagram. “1. I had the honor of meeting and picking the brain of the legendary Lesley Stahl. She is everything. 2. I finally accomplished the thing Cosmo prepared us for every day of our lives as teens: successfully turning a top from day to night.”

While Balionis cherished these moments, McIlroy was notably absent from TPC River Highlands on her milestone day. Taking a pause from professional swings following his heart-wrenching defeat at the US Open against Bryson DeChambeau, the golfing ace from Northern Ireland announced a brief hiatus from the sport.

As McIlroy stepped back, rumours swirled about his private life, particularly during a period when it was known he had parted ways temporarily with wife Erica Stoll. Speculation even arose about potential romantic sparks between Balionis and McIlroy after some interpreted their on-screen interaction during an RBC Canadian Open interview as flirtatious.

The divorce chatter has been silenced after McIlroy and Stoll decided to stick together ahead of the US Open. Merely hours after McIlroy’s narrow loss at Pinehurst No. 2, the pair, along with their daughter Poppy, were seen enjoying a leisurely walk.

Post-Pinehurst, McIlroy is taking a breather from golf for a few weeks, before returning with gusto in July for the Open Championship, set at Royal Troon.

“Yesterday was a tough day, probably the toughest I’ve had in my nearly 17 years as a professional golfer,” he wrote this week. “As I reflect on my week, I’ll rue a few things over the course of the tournament, mostly, the 2 missed putts on 16 and 18 on the final day.

“But, as I always try to do, I’ll look at the positives of the week that far outweigh the negatives. As I said at the start of the tournament, I feel closer to winning my next major championship than I ever have.

“The one word that I would describe my career as is resilient. I’ve shown my resilience over and over again in the last 17 years and I will again. I’m going to take a few weeks away from the game to process everything and build myself back up for my defense of the Genesis Scottish Open and The Open at Royal Troon. See you in Scotland.”
