“I’m hurt”: Phil Mickelson in tears (!) The details of the shock announcement πŸ‘‡.

Monahan surprised his team of players by announcing a shocking framework agreement with the Saudi Public Investment Fund, which will fund the LIV golf league. The commissioner, who has previously been a vocal opponent of Saudi Arabia’s involvement in the sport, is under intense scrutiny over his handling of secret talks with the PIF and LIV, and questions are growing about whether the agreement bringing together the PGA, DP World Tour and PIF will be ratified by the self-imposed December 31 deadline. Mickelson, who has led LIV since its inception, has now fired back at Monahan, in response to rumors that the 53-year-old may soon be fired.

“It’s entirely his fault that golf is in this situation, on top of the fact that LIV players are heavily armed and he has lost the trust of the players and staff,” Mickelson said. “In my opinion, there is no unity or progress with him.”

Monahan continues to fight to regain the trust of his own members as the Tour tries to forge a deal that will unite its warring factions as one commercial entity.

Tiger Woods, who was named to the PGA Tour’s policy council in response to his anger over Monahan’s backroom dealings, was asked about the commissioner ahead of his return to competition at the Hero World Challenge. β€œI think Jay [Monahan] is part of that trend, he understands that what happened before cannot and will not happen again,” Woods said.
β€œPart of the reason I got on the board was because I believed in Jay and what he could do in the future and what he couldn’t do anymore.”

In the meantime, Monahan remains confident that a deal with PIF can be reached. “If this is finalized, the PGA Tour will be in a position where the players are the owners of the sport,” he told The New York Times’ DealBook conference.
“The addition of PIF, but also potentially another co-investor with extensive experience in business, sports and brands, could help take the PGA Tour to a new level and take market share from other sports.”
